As part of the ongoing and entirely excellent Toco Toco series of interviews, the latest of these features game director Katsura Hashino. Having recently directed Persona 5, we get a guided tour around Tokyo featuring areas that were used in the game.

Persona 5 Requirements

While Persona 5 is yet to be released in the West, the game came out at the end of last year in Japan. It’s been met with a great deal of praise by fans and the press alike here in Japan.

One of the more interesting aspects to Persona 5 is how it integrates areas in modern Tokyo into the game.

It’s these that Hashino gives us a tour of and it’s nice to see much of my local area also featured.

My only gripe with this interview is that Hashino is credited as a “creator”, which implies a degree of singular authorship. Considering the size of the team obviously involved in the production of Persona 5, this kind of accreditation feels misrepresentative.

Despite that, it’s a fascinating interview and covers a lot of good ground for fans of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.
